During pregnancy, the body grows more quickly on the inside than the skin can keep up with and it is reported that approximately 90% of women will develop stretch marks in the sixth and seventh month. The fibrous and elastic layers deep in the skin stretch and tear and stretch marks may appear. Stretch marks may appear more in areas affected by gravity, such as the breasts and buttocks.
